Use the power of the sun to capture stunning images with this classic Sunprint Kit. Combining a science experiment with a craft kit, this is a great way to get tamariki interested in the science behind photography.
Developed by educators at the Lawrence Hall of Science, Sunprints encourage an interest in the photographic process using only sun, water, and a bit of imagination.
This magical photo-sensitive paper allows you to create your own blue and white artworks. Simply place an object like a flower or leaf onto the paper and leave it in the sun. After a few minutes, remove the objects and rinse the paper in water to make the silhouettes stay permanently on the paper.
The paper undergoes a chemical change when exposed to sunlight. The Sunprint paper can be used for a creative, solar art project. With this paper you can also demonstrate UV blocking sunscreen by smearing sunscreen on plexiglass and exposing the paper to the sun. Use different strengths of sunscreen and see how the image has changed.
