Gripmen Rules Tea Towel
Relive the strange past of the iconic Wellington Cable Car with the Gripmen Rules Tea Towel. This practical piece is the perfect memento for any visitor to Wellington.
In 1934, Gripmen responsible for operating the grip cars that climbed the hills to Kelburn received a rule book. The book had to be kept on them at all times and provided strict instructions for their job. It included advice about everything from dealing with a breakdown, to coping with passengers.
Many of the rules sound unusual, ridiculous or even offensive today. A copy of this rule book is a part of the Museums Wellington collection, and you can now purchase your own faithful recreation of a page.
