Fran first started considering the potential in repurposing single-use plastic gelato spoons whilst experimenting with collected ‘waste’ materials on her Whitireia NZ Artist Residency at Toi Pōneke Art Centre in 2015.
Although she started to create jewellery pieces with them then, it wasn’t until later that she found a dynamic way to process the colourful Gelato spoons into a sheet material, putting them to use in a beautiful and satisfying way that felt more resolved. Fran produces all her earring components in hypo-allergenic solid sterling silver and uses only sterling silver manufactured butterfly fasteners.
