Giant Weta Soft Toy

The Giant Weta Soft Toy is an adorable plush version of New Zealand’s native wētāpunga.

Wētāpunga are very large insects, unique to Aotearoa. A giant wētā species, they can sometimes grow to be heavier than a mouse or sparrow!⁠

Wētāpunga were originally distributed across Northland, Auckland and Great Barrier Island (Aotea), but due to habitat destruction and predation from exotic pests, the species only survived on Hauturu-o-Toi/Little Barrier Island. Successful breeding and translocation projects mean that they are also now present on Tiritiri Matangi and Motuora Islands.⁠

This children’s toy includes some of the giant wētā's recognisable features such as its big body, spiny legs, and curved tusks. It makes a lovely gift for little ones.
