Based in Miramar, Masako Styles captures Pōneke's wild weather in a bold illustrative style. Originally from Japan, Masako finds inspiration in how wind is an inextricable part of life in Wellington, creating unique and interesting scenes not easily found in other cities.

"Before moving to Wellington, I lived in San Diego where the weather is almost always sunny, calm, and very predictable - it is the opposite of Wellington", Masako said. "So, I was quite shocked when I first moved here. I remember thinking on one very windy morning, surely, my son's kindy must be closed in this weather, it's like a typhoon. But of course, everything was open and operating as usual. Now I know that it was just one of many usual windy days".
