Sparkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki signals the Māori New Year. Traditionally this was a time to remember the dead and celebrate new life. The Matariki asterism is also known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters.

Nichola Te Kiri, of dual Māori and Pākeha heritage, was raised in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton), Aotearoa. Her upbringing within two worlds has helped develop her aesthetic for bold and courageous lines, prints and designs.
